Meet Lydia: The Heart Behind South Dakota Sourdough
Hi, I’m Lydia Mueller! Baking has been a lifelong love that runs deep in my roots. Growing up, the kitchen was always the heart of our home, filled with the warmth of fresh bread baked by my grandparents and mom. Those family traditions shaped me, and to this day, the kitchen remains my favorite spot—especially during holidays and gatherings. There’s just something magical about making well-crafted food for my loved ones.
I like to say I’m the opposite of “fast food.” I’m a proud slow food enthusiast, putting time, love, and real ingredients into everything I create. From scratch baking, garden canning, and choosing American-made products, I stay true to my commitment to support local farms and small businesses. It’s all about community and quality, and I bring that mindset to every loaf.
Sourdough was an unexpected love story for me. A friend once shared her starter with a simple recipe, and from the first loaf, I was hooked. Learning to nurture that starter and see how it transformed ordinary ingredients into probiotic-rich, easily digestible bread felt like discovering an age-old secret. I dove deep into the history of sourdough, embracing its centuries-old tradition as a beautiful connection to our ancestors.
Now, baking with my kids is one of the greatest joys—teaching them, laughing with them, and hopefully passing on this passion. South Dakota Sourdough is more than a business; it’s a tribute to family, heritage, and the simple, nourishing joy of homemade food.
